Today (well, a while ago actually as it's taken us a while to put it together, oops!) Tom talks to the lovely, insightful, uplifting Rebecca Ickes Carra. Rebecca lives in Chicago and is host of The Maker's Playbook, a podcast about people choosing to live lives as artists and creators. You can listen here (and you really should): https://makers-playbook.com/podcast
Rebecca is also a potter as well as a wedding photographer, and we wanted to know what it's been like surviving in a world where you can't do your day job... it's a cheerier chat than you might expect!
In this show I also mention a brilliant online course aimed at helping you meet your creative goals. It's called 'Make Happen' and you can find out about it here (the site may be down for maintenance but it'll be back up soon!): https://makehappen.today/programme
For the pottery fans, there's also mention of another potter, Kara Leigh Ford who you can find here: https://karaleighfordceramics.com
If you're feeling low, please make sure you speak to someone and inform your GP; they can help!

Thanks so much for tuning into the 2020 series finale of the Everyday Problems podcast! What a year it’s been. In this final episode of the year, hosts Liam and Tom discuss some of their biggest lessons from the show so far. If you haven’t tuned in before, this is a pretty good taster, but we definitely recommend that you head back to the earlier shows when you have time; we’ve had some fantastic guests and enlightening chats.
Here are some links for the brilliant contributors we discuss in today’s episode:
Blair Chadwick is currently working on a serialisation of his most recent experiences with bipolar disorder. You can keep up to date with his project and find links to his own brilliant podcasts here: https://www.instagram.com/blairsbluesandothernews/
Ben Akers, founder of Talk Club and the Steve Documentary:
‘Steve’ can be found here: https://www.stevedocumentary.com
Ben’s Ted Talk can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9FEQYp1imc
And more details about Talk Club can be found here: https://www.wetalkclub.com
Johann Hari’s book, Lost Connections can be found in all good independent bookshops, but if you can’t get into town, you can also find it here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lost-Connections-Youre-Depressed-Find/dp/1408878720/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3955GB29AOT6S&dchild=1&keywords=lost+connections+johann+hari&qid=1605376012&sprefix=lost+connections%2Caps%2C144&sr=8-1

Episode 9: living with a bipolar disorder; an interview with Blair Chadwick
Monday Oct 12, 2020
Monday Oct 12, 2020
In episode 9, Tom speaks to one of his closest friends, Blair Chadwick, about living with an underlying bipolar condition and what it's like to experience a psychotic episode, as well as the recovery that follows. It was a tough one to make, but as ever, we thought you should hear it.
Huge thanks to Blair for his openness and honesty, and a big shout out to the medical professionals everywhere who are there to help those of us who need a hand from time to time as mental health throws up obstacles.
Here at Everyday Problems, we’re not medical professionals but if you feel that you may be some how in danger, we strongly recommend that you speak to someone who is. Rather than put links up to counsellors and therapists in your area, we recommend that you speak directly to your GP, and if you’re in immediate danger then perhaps speak to the Samaritans on 116 123.
If you find this podcast helpful and would like to support it, along with other important projects, you can do so for as little as £1.70 per month Every donation makes a huge difference and means we can continue bringing you great content. Episode 8 of Everyday Problems sees hosts Tom and Liam discuss an event that took place for Tom some years ago resulting from a long period of not addressing psychological issues that badly needed his attention. The conversation gets a little graphic in terms of some of the injuries sustained but we felt it necessary to bare all in order to demonstrate the severity of what can happen if you’re not looking after yourself.
Whatever your problems are, no matter how big or small they may seem compared to other people’s, they are yours and they are real. Don’t be ashamed to feel sadness, stress, grief, depression, anxiety, or frankly anything else. We urge you though, not to bottle those feelings up, but to speak to someone and let them know that you may be struggling.

We were so fortunate this week to get some time with Ben Akers. Ben released a documentary - 'Steve' - in 2019 in which he explored the reasons for his childhood friend's suicide and what we might do to avoid this happening again and again.
As you'll hear in the show, suicide is the biggest UK killer of men under the age of 50. But this show is for everyone; whether you're in danger, or know someone who is, or just want to get better at having conversations about 'how we are'.
Ben's documentary can be found here: https://www.stevedocumentary.com
His Ted Talk can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9FEQYp1imc
And more details about Talk Club can be found here: https://www.wetalkclub.com
As ever there are a couple of audio blips in there and one swear, but we felt it important for you to hear the conversation the way it happened. So, here you go...
